Individualized Approach and Comprehensive Strategy

Successful rheumatoid arthritis therapy requires an individualized approach, selecting the right drug for a specific patient taking into account their condition and disease stage [7]. RA treatment is not simply prescribing a single drug, but a comprehensive strategy that may include:

  • Early initiation of therapy: The earlier adequate treatment is started, the better the prognosis.
  • Step-down approach: Starting with milder, well-tolerated anti-inflammatory drugs for mild cases, moving to more effective but potentially more toxic drugs for severe courses or lack of response [7].
  • Long-term therapy: For patients unresponsive to previous measures, slow-acting, long-term agents are used [7].
  • Corticosteroids: Can be used for rapid relief of flares and reduction of inflammation, but their long-term use is limited due to side effects [7].
  • Non-pharmacological methods: Physiotherapy, exercise therapy, orthoses, and, if necessary, surgical intervention.
